More Dark Matter.

There seems to be eruptions of one colour and the garden has in certain places took a dark turn.

An unnamed Iris, rescued from an abandoned allotment several years ago.

Eucomis, looks like a good year. Several more shoots showing too.

Image

Thalictrum Aquilegiifolium, I have several with these lovely dark purple stems growing to about 150 cms tall. Always goes quick on my plant stall.

Image

Cotinus Royal Purple. Beautiful foliage in early summer and again in the autumn.

    Heuchera

Grown from mixed seed from Plant World about 5 years ago, the original is now in my daughters garden and grows to about 120 cms tall. This is a cutting from the original taken last year. A large plant when fully grown and very impressive.

Euphorbia Amygdaloides ‘Purpurea’  a little common and slightly invasive, but in the right situation sets off oranges and yellows. I’ve just noticed the tiny coral coloured flowers….. quite cute.

So I wonder what will be the next fashionable colour in the garden. ….Watch this space.

  2. The heuchera is 120cms tall?! Your eucomis looks promising – I am growing some this year for the first time so I feel more confident knowing yours does well.

    • The Heuchera is huge, that’s why it went to my unsuspecting daughter, and why I have a cutting as she couldn’t cope with it any more and was outing it. My Eucomis have been in the ground for years, they are in a slightly damp area in my sheltered white garden, they get the sun but it is filtered. Hope you get yours to flourish, I love them…

  3. I love the dark colours, although I find them tricky to incorporate into the garden. I also have heuchera, ‘Purple Palace’, which is starting to do well, and they look good next to Geranium Phaeum ‘Samobor’.

  4. I too love the dark side! Do you have iris chrysographea? If not I will send you some seed.

    • Thought I had it but it turned out too blue…seed would be fantastic. I have been growing mixed species seed from Plant World ,several are due to flower this year, buds are fattening up, it’s exciting…..almost as exciting as listening to Kate Bush on the laptop as I write….Thanks again…

  6. I wish Euphorbia Amygdaloides ‘Purpurea’ was invasive with me, I’ve not managed to keep one alive and I have tried several times. I love dark colours, I must think about trying some Huechera from seed, maybe I’d get some goof ones from my H. ‘Stormy Seas’
